Tips for Running in Florida

 

One of the many things people love about FishHawk Ranch is the active lifestyle! With 25 miles of trails, running is a favorite for many of our residents. Stop by, and you’re almost sure to see someone jogging in the neighborhood. Whether you’re new to running or have a stack of marathon medals, here are our best tips for running in FishHawk Ranch:

1. Timing is Everything
One of our most important tips is to carefully select what time you run. Summer afternoons in Florida can be hot, so run in the morning or the evening, when the sun is not at its peak. Mornings tend to be more reliable, as evenings often bring Florida rain.

2. The Great Indoors
If you do want to run in the middle of the day, or just prefer an indoors environment, our fitness center is equipped with treadmills, as well as other cardio equipment. The fitness center is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

3. Mix it Up
With 25 miles of trails, you can run every day and never get tired of the same old scenery. Take a relaxing scenic stroll under the oak canopies, dive into a challenging multi-elevation run, or go on a family bike ride around our ponds, where you can catch a glimpse of our resident wildlife.

4. Go on an adventure!
Not only are our trails a great place to run, they’re a great place to discover some of FishHawk Ranch’s best photo spots. The diversity of Florida’s landscape is yours to explore, offering beauty for every lifestyle and speed.

5. Grab a Partner
Running is better with a friend! Our wide trails are perfect for strollers, young bicyclers, or furry friends. FishHawk Ranch also has a running club so you can meet new friends while getting exercise!

6. Stay Hydrated
Bring a frozen water bottle with you to cool off on hot days - it will melt during your run, so you don’t have to worry about your water getting warm! FishHawk Ranch offers water fountains at our community amenities.
