that the Florida Green Building Coalition has named the FishHawk Ranch™ community as a "green" community, the first in Hillsborough County and the largest in the Tampa area. The National Arbor Day Foundation® and the State of Florida have also honored the FishHawk Ranch community preservation efforts. Here are a few reasons why our families enjoy a healthier life in the FishHawk Ranch community.
Lifestyle
Living an active life in the FishHawk Ranch community is possible at every turn. With 25 miles of trails, we can choose a different course every day, whether on bike or on foot. Our neighborhood parks and pools are located a short distance from every home, with a variety of places to play, workout and swim.
Open Space
Thousands of our trees have been preserved throughout the 1,300 acres of restored and preserved wetlands and wildlife habitats. In fact, our trails were carefully designed to minimize the impact on existing plants and wildlife.
Water
Development best practices have been incorporated to protect our natural aquifer and enhance our water quality. Drought-resistant native plants are featured in common areas to conserve our water. Use of storm water and reclaimed water via a central irrigation system helps save valuable drinking water. And our swimming pools located throughout the community reduce the need for individual pools at home.
Homes
Conservation begins at home. Approximately 30% of our home sites allow for solar energy capability. The FishHawk Ranch homebuilders are encouraged to offer this alternative and other green home construction standards. Educational programs provided by onsite "green" specialists make green education, training and resources available to all FishHawk Ranch homeowners. Community
The FishHawk Ranch community is green by design. Our schools are located in the community or within walking and biking distance for most everyone to save energy and reduce congestion. Native trees line our streets, providing a canopy of shade and help to counteract automobile traffic. Utilities are located underground when possible, preserving our valuable trees and open space. Plus, onsite recycling is provided at all our parks, community centers and playing fields.
